This is the first time I learned the words Mbongi: the “think tank”(Dr Carr notes), Boko: solution finding, Lusanga: to amalgamate. Hearing them made me first realize that there is so much knowledge that we do not have and our daily culture progresses such that we reason we do not need such philosophical presence within us. But to understand is to know. These terms are the basis of societal function and progression. Better understanding them allows us to plow our path firmly in the direction we need to in order to be successful in our lives. Although I had not thought so at first but Howard is a Mbongi and we are all part of it. It is left to us to choose if we wish to provide or not to our community. On a personal note I find that what you give to society, society gives back to you tenfold. So our ideology should be set in such terms as to progress the knowledge within us and our environment. As Dr. Carr mentioned, learning is more than just having an academic presence within us. It’s more of a process of “learning as” in order to actually put our learning into practice. The lecture also mentioned the diminishing quantity or no presence of philosophers in our times. This shows how grinded we are in pursuit of knowledge yet we lack thought. It’s the Lusanga of both knowledge and thought which provides fruitful learning. The lecture teaches in term of the first civilizations and Africa heritage and shows us the African Diaspora of knowledge through the lens we should see it as. It should be seen as the foundation of modern thought rather than an undermined methodology. The lectures expressed that “deep thought” is what is needed most and only the provoking intriguing discovery of answers from thought provoking questions is what defines academic. After learning this I find myself looking at education in a different manner, a greater way to look at things, a scope that helps me define and challenge myself more is the way of the African heritage : the way of the successful people before us. ( All ideas mentioned and quotes examined have been provided By Dr. Carr and are present in his power point presentations)
