I would have loved to have been involved in an mbongi. If our classroom is one then maybe I don’t see it. I thought an mbongi was a place in which everyone’s thoughts were voiced? Obviously not all at once, but with order, clarity, and strength. I feel as though you can’t have an mbongi through having lectures. In a true mbongi I think we would all be able to voice our opinions and be heard out by our classmates. For you cannot truly lusanga, boko, or yemba without being really involved in the discussion. At most you will be able to kioto, or inhale, the information that has been given to you.
During Dr. Carr’s lecture I did find some things very interesting and fun to learn. I took in some of the African terms and further looked them up. I also enjoyed reading some of the quotes from some of the historical African Americans he had listed. Dr. Carr was quite fun and I actually managed to stay awake the entire time.
