All great journeys’ start somewhere. I have been dropped off on the roadside along Howard University with all costs paid. I look towards the horizon and my first week begins. The rush of scheduling, the room changes, the classes with professors you weren’t expecting all come with the excitement of the first week at Howard. Don’t get the wrong idea the experience is simply, priceless. Never have I ran across four buildings and talked to six people to get an override slip, but hey that’s what makes Howard a great place. We over complicate for the betterment, what did I get out of my override-slipathon? I was blessed with visiting a great portion of Howard campus which my schedule had not accommodated. Better yet what I learned was that each time we walk onto Howard (I live off campus so I walk onto Howard) we find new faces, bright smiles, and great personalities. It’s more of an amalgamation of perfection so seemingly intertwined around us that it makes me feel special that I have had the opportunity to be part of it. Coming to Howard I never knew what to expect. The college thought process for me was like, “um okay I want to go to medical school, Howard has a BS/MD program” and bam I was accepted. It happened so fast I liked it. It’s just that about Howard that makes me feel like I am about to go on a great thrill coaster, don’t get me wrong you still have that physics professor who goes the who class teaching about vectors and fails to define anything. But then again that’s why we have books and recitation right? Oh as the topic is on hand books are a great wall to lean against but to purchase them I had to stick with the internet. The books store although a great place to be, I find my money disappearing too fast. Buying books from other students and online bargain shopping; that has been my pinnacle moment of college so far, it’s definitely a great way to start college. Now all that’s left are those first assignments, the introductory grades that go in with your first tests, the looming thought of “oh god if I do bad on the easy ones what’s going to happen to me!” This blog I find more of pleasure, looking back at my week rather then something that adds to my work load. It’s more of a relaxer the time when you sit back and think about all the good things that have happened to you and smile and wish for those dark looming moments to never happen. But hey its college, anything can happen anytime, so let’s buckle up, smile and keep that light bulb on its time to make our future.

Howard Experience
Oh Howard.
Personally, since I'm living off campus my Howard experience has been a little bit different from everyone else's. At first I got here with the mindset that it would be easy to compensate for not living on campus, being that I'm kind of a social person, only to discover that it's really not. I hate having to commute on Mondays&Wednesdays to my 9:10 classes that are three hours long and then hurry to the next class because I only have ten minutes in between that class and my next one. On Tuesdays&Thursdays it's the same thing and I can only catch a break after my first two classes are finished. OH!& Don't even try to stay awake or entertained in my back to back classes of English and Survey of Visual Art. Being a Photography major I mostly just look forward to those days in my Basic B&W Photo class where we go out and shoot for hours or my drawing class where I can freely sketch my opinionated mind. The positives to my schedule, being that all my classes end at 3:00-3:30, are that I do get to wander and explore the campus for what it is, an extraordinary HBCU.
My first thoughts on the Freshman Seminar when registering for classes was that, due to the fact that it was a mandatory one credit class, I thought it would be easy and simple. Once attending the first session, and reading the syllabus, I came quick to realize that the class came with a lot of to-do's and work. I remember I walked into the auditorium and I was like 30 minutes early. I sat there with another young man who knew nothing about the syllabus we were supposed to have read and I watched people slowly file in. When the lady started to review the syllabus that's when I said to myself. Darnit BRIE! You should have printed it out. I'm honestly not excited about the lectures so much, because the person is talking at you. So I hope we have discussions and our group works well together. The class went on and on, and even a little longer than expected which almost made me late to my next class. I'm hoping next time everything goes according to plan because I can't wait to see what's up next.
My Very First Blog Post....Ever.
Um...So far Howard has been okay, I guess. I'm not really sure what to expect of Freshman Seminar, but I don' t think I will be a big fan of it for some reason. I like my Biology professor hes nice, as well as my Calculus professor. Maybe it's because those are my favorite two subjects... I already know Chemistry is going to be a tough one, and my professor doesn't seem very inviting. I'm not sure how Freshman Seminar will help me this school year. I'm not even 100% sure what it's about. The first lecture was very confusing, so I'm confused. I think the blog assignment is kind of nice though, I've never blogged so it's new to me....All in all I'm enjoying Howard so far! =)
Initial Self-Assessment
My first week of classes at Howard University has gone pretty well, so far. I have a manageable course load that consists of five classes and a lab. I believe that I'm going to struggle a bit with my first class-Intro to Biology- and that's partly due to the fact that I'm no good at science. (Good luck to all you Bio majors!) My easiest class will probably be Freshmen Seminar, because really... how hard could writing blogs for an assignment be? (Watch me somehow jinx myself and NOT pass this class... :/) I'm also taking Intro to Sociology, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the "possible minor earthquake" that happened Tuesday. Hopefully there won't be any further "possible minor" anythings to keep me from going to the next session. All in all, I'm excited for this new school year at Howard U! HU, you know!
